The jobless rate dropped significantly in St. Lawrence County last month, from 10.3 percent in July to 9.9 percent in July, according to figures released this afternoon by the New York State Department of Labor. It stood at 9.6 percent in August, 2009.
Despite the drop, the county still has the highest rate in New York outside of New York City.
The statewide jobless rate dropped from 8.4 percent to 8.2 percent from July to August.

The figures above are what the Labor Department calls “not seasonally adjusted.” The statewide rate under the seasonal adjustment formula went up from 8.2 percent to 8.3 percent from July to August.
In nearby Franklin County, the jobless rate dipped from 8.0 to 7.8 percent, and in Jefferson County from 8.3 to 8.0 percent July to August, not seasonally adjusted.
