CANTON – The St. Lawrence County Historical Association’s Campaign for the People of St. Lawrence County surpassed the $300,000 mark on Monday, Dec. 21.
The $500,000 fundraising campaign will increase the internal endowment that will allow the Historical Association to fund and create new exhibits and programming while expanding educational outreach activities.
“It has taken some time but I have kept an optimistic approach to the campaign. It’s truly amazing how generous people can be especially during these tough times,” stated Campaign Coordinator Paul D. Mitchell. “It’s evident the Historical Association is a unique and special place to many people.”
“I’m so pleased to see the following that SLCHA has, both in St. Lawrence County and elsewhere,” new executive director Ashley Maready said. “When I started here in October, I didn’t yet know the depths of that support, and I was hopeful that we could surpass $300,000 before the end of 2020. In 2021 and beyond, I intend to grow the institution in ways that benefit our generous supporters.”
“At a time when there is uncertainty in the air, we find comfort and encouragement knowing people care about our cause and the future of the Historical Association,” Mr. Mitchell added. “There’s still a long way to go but hitting the $300,000 mark is an inspiring achievement.”
Tax-deductible gifts, in any amount, can be mailed to SLCHA, P.O. Box 8, Canton, NY 13617. Supporters can also donate by visiting the SLCHA website at www.slcha.org, click on the Donate button and donate via PayPal. The public can also drop off a contribution at the Silas Wright Museum, 3 East Main St., Canton, and while there, get a glimpse of what the Historical Association has to offer.
“We are wearing masks, practicing social distancing and complying with all pandemic protocol,” Mitchell said.
Museum hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
