CANTON - A St. Lawrence County grand jury has indicted Michael Snow, 31, of Massena, in the shooting death of a SUNY Potsdam student on Feb. 18, announced District Attorney Gary Pasqua Thursday afternoon.
Snow was indicted on charges of second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter, first-degree assault, and first-degree criminal use of a firearm.
An arraignment on the indictment is scheduled for April 11 at 1 p.m. at the St. Lawrence County Courthouse. Snow remains incarcerated at the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility on no bail.
Snow is accused of shooting Elizbeth Howell on the SUNY Potsdam campus. Howell, a student from Patterson, was found on College Park Road near SUNY Potsdam with multiple gunshot wounds shortly before 6 p.m.
Witnesses say the shots came from a gray sedan that was passing by, presumed to be driven by Snow, according to previous reports.
Potsdam police attempted life-saving measures on scene before Potsdam EMS arrived to continue. Howell was transported to Canton-Potsdam Hospital where she was pronounced dead around 7 p.m., according to previous reports.
State police, with support from Massena police and Homeland Security Investigations, served a warrant and entered Snow’s home with a door ram and flash bangs before taking him into custody without further incident on Feb. 19.
