Shirley A. Hawes, 87, Ogdensburg

OGDENSBURG -- A Mass of Christian Burial for Shirley A. Hawes, 87, of Ogdensburg, NY, will be celebrated on Saturday, February 3rd, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Notre Dame Church with Rev. F. James Shurtleff as celebrant.

Entombment will follow the Mass at the Oswegatchie Mausoleum.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 2, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Frary Funeral Home, Ogdensburg.

Shirley was born on October 01, 1936, in Ogdensburg, NY the daughter of the late Joseph and Helen (Barr) Dishaw. Her father Joseph’s untimely death occurred when she was just five years old. She was lovingly raised by her mother and her second husband, the late, Theodore Gardner. Shirley attended Ogdensburg Free Academy.

On August 24, 1957, she married Richard F. “Dick” Hawes at Notre Dame Church with Father Fauncher officiating. Richard predeceased her on November 26, 2023.

Shirley was employed at Standard Shade Roller for a time, before staying home to raise her two sons.

Shirley was a lifelong parishioner of Notre Dame Church, and a member of the Altar Rosary Society.

She loved to cook and bake, and was known for her delicious fudge. She was an easy-going person who was always steady and calm.

She had a beautiful collection of Angel and Bunny figurines. She loved gatherings of neighbors and families, enjoyed tending to her flowers and gardening and the occasional shopping trip. Most of all she loved spending time with her family.

Shirley is survived by her children, Steven Hawes of Ogdensburg, Mark Hawes and his wife, Tina of Ogdensburg; her grandchildren, Melanie and her husband, Joseph Barron of Spring Hill, FL, Laken Hawes and her companion, Justin Hammer of Tampa, Florida, Jordan Hawes and his wife, Brooke of Ogdensburg; well as her great-grandchildren, Savanna, Alexis, and Joseph Barron Jr. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her siblings, Elizabeth Brabant, Janet Fuller, Clark Dishaw Sr. and Dona Dishaw.
