MASSENA – Two fundraising events, Santa Paws and Polar Plunge, will be held Saturday, Nov. 6 at the New York Power Authority Hawkins Point Visitors Center, Barnhart Island.
The holiday season will get an early start when Santa Claus arrives at the center to pose for photos with visitors’ pets at the annual Santa Paws event to raise money for Spay-Neuter Now, an organization devoted to animal welfare.
Photos will be taken from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. There will be a $10 donation per photo to benefit Spay-Neuter Now.
At noon, volunteers will be “freezin’ for a reason” at the second annual Polar Plunge to benefit the Special Olympics.
Teams and individuals will raise money for the cause by plunging into the waters of the St. Lawrence River off the Hawkins Point boat launch.
Registration for the plunge will begin at 9 a.m. at the visitors center.
All plungers who raise $100 will receive a sweatshirt.
