Roughly 60 roads remain partially closed; report flood damage using online survey

More than 60  Roads in St. Lawrence County remained closed Sunday morning following major flooding on Friday.

While the Northern towns remain largely unscathed, central and Southern parts of the county are still dealing with flooding major damage.

The underpass on Route 11 near Canton is open but a portion of State Highway 345 in Madrid remains closed. 

St. Lawrence County Office of Emergency Services says Backus Road in Pyrites, Cady Road,  County Route 54 near 1054, Forbes Road in Pyrites, Given Road in Edwards,  Silver Hill Road in Russell, US Highway 11 in Canton near the underpass, Water Street in Nicholville and West Cotter Street in North Lawrence have reopened.

Meanwhile severely damaged roads include Blanchard Hill Road in Russell, County Route 21 in Hermon, County Route 27 near Allen Road in Pierrepont, County Route 49 near Vankennan Road in Brookdale, County Route 54 and McEwen Road in Lawrence, Dana Hill Road in Russell, Hill Road in Russell, Pestle Street in Russell, Pyrites-Russell Road, State Highway 345 near River Road in Madrid, State Highway 68 near 3139 and US. Highway 11 near Desmond Road in Lawrence.

A state of emergency has been declared and remains in effect in New York State and St. Lawrence County.

On Friday rainfall carried by Hurricane Debby wiped out roads and bridges and left vehicles stranded. It was all hands on deck as emergency responders, volunteers and neighbors worked to keep people safe as rivers overflowed.

St. Lawrence County Emergency Services Director Matt Denner said an emergency shelter has been set up and that people can call 911 or the emergency operations center at 315-229-3950 for help. 

Some local fire departments have also opened their doors to provide relief to those in need.

Road and bridge damages likely total in the millions and homeowners are encouraged to keep track of their storm related expenses.

As of Friday evening there were no storm related fatalities reported in St. Lawrence County according St. Lawrence County Sheriff Rick Engle.

On Friday a total travel ban was put into effect, but that was downgraded to an advisory on Saturday, which still remains in effect today.
