Robert H. Stone, Sr. (Stonie), 89, Potsdam

POTSDAM -- Robert H. Stone, Sr., (Stonie), 89, Potsdam, passed away at home on September 7, 2024.

Bob was born on May 1, 1935, to the late Carl and Ruth (Howard) Stone.

Bob attended Potsdam Schools where he played basketball and football before enlisting in the US Navy from 1955 to 1959. He was in the Navy Reserves from 1959 to 1963. Bob was a Korean War Vet.

Bob retired from the village of Potsdam as the Operations Foreman of the Water and Hydro Plant. Before that he was a paid driver for the Potsdam Fire Department and also a bus driver for Potsdam School.

Bob was a lifetime member of the Potsdam Volunteer Fire Department, a life time member of the Potsdam Elks Lodge #2074, A founding father and lifetime member of the Potsdam Moose Lodge #2397, a lifetime member of the American Legion, and a lifetime member of the VFW.

Bob loved to play golf, softball and he was an avid bowler. He enjoyed and loved going to bowling conventions.

Bob is survived by his wife, Lynda L. Stone, his children: Carl (Melissa) Stone of Howardsville, VA, Robert (BJ) H. Stone, JR (Diane Morrill) of Potsdam, NY, Brian (Jen) Stone of Potsdam, NY, Gary (Melanie) Stone of Newport News, VA, Valerie Stone (Mark Bellucci) of Potsdam, NY. His two step children: Kimberely (Greg) Dashno, Newport, NC and Floyd (Sheila) Covey of Canton, NY. As well as several grandchildren and great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Bob was predeceased by a son, Joseph H. Stone, his parents and his brother and sisters and their spouses. A marriage to Nancy Lacosse ended in divorce.

Friends may call at the Donaldson~Seymour Funeral Home on Thursday 4-7PM, where a funeral service will be held Friday at 11AM with Pastor Lee Sweeney officiating.

Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Canton.
