Robert Francis Swift, 93, formerly of Gouverneur

GOUVERNEUR -- Robert Francis Swift was born on August 12, 1930, to William and Frances Swift in Syracuse, N.Y..

He passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 17, 2024, at the Samaritan Keep Home where he has been a resident for the past year at the age of 93.

Robert graduated from Gouverneur High School where he met the love of his life Clara Turnbull.

He attended Syracuse University where he studied interior design. After college he worked in construction with his father for a short time and later became employed with Randles Mfg. Co. in Ogdensburg, N.Y.

Robert made patterns and oversaw the cutting and construction of uniforms for businesses such as Eastman Kodak, State Hospital, Hepburn Hospital. After the business closure he owned and operated Seven Gables Upholstery in Morristown, N.Y. until his retirement.

He married Clara Turnbull and raised 6 children in Morristown, N.Y.

He was an avid reader, enjoyed painting and he was involved with area libraries, museums and art centers throughout his life.

Upon retirement, he and his wife enjoyed camping and traveling in their RV and ended up residing in the desert Southwest in Deming, New Mexico until his wife's passing.

Robert is survived by six children; Sons, Gregory (Sara), Jeffrey (Dorothy), Timothy (George), and David (Connie); daughters Kathleen, and Jayne (Shayne). He also has 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

He is predeceased by his parents, wife, Clara, and brothers, William and Howard.

At his request there will be no calling hours or burial service.

Arrangements are with the Fox & Murray Funeral Home in Ogdensburg.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Morristown Public Library or the Morristown Gateway Museum.

The family cannot thank the Samaritan Keep Home enough for the care, safety and comfort that they provided Robert during his stay.
