Zach Risteau recorded his first career multi-goal game on Friday night with both goals for the St. Lawrence men's hockey team, but the Saints fell to Colgate in ECAC Hockey action, 3-2, at Class of 1965 Arena in Hamilton, New York.

Risteau scored a power play goal late in the first period to make it 2-1 in favor of Colgate and then added an extra-attacker goal with one minute to play in regulation for the final 3-2 margin.

Colgate entered Friday's game with the top faceoff percentage in the league, but the Saints got the better of the draws, finishing 31-27. Colgate did hold the advantage in blocked shots, 15-7; a category the Saints led the league in prior to puck drop.

The Raiders took a 2-0 lead midway through the first period with two goals in 38 seconds, including one on the power play.

The first goal came after Saints' netminder Emil Zetterquist came out to challenge Colgate's Bobby McCann one-on-one. McCann waited him out and Zetterquist slid well beyond the near post, allowing the Raiders' forwards to throw the puck across the goal mouth for an easy tap in by John Snodgrass at 8:43.

Snodgrass was hauled down by the Saints' Cade Gleekel on the play, so in addition to falling behind 1-0, St. Lawrence also found itself on the penalty kill.

At the 9:21 mark, Jacob Panetta put a rink-wide pass from Tyler Jeanson behind Zetterquist for the power play goal that extended the lead to 2-0.

Later in the first period, with the Saints on the power play, Risteau picked up the loose puck off a blocked shot in the right circle and beat Colgate netminder Mitch Benson over his left shoulder for his second goal in as many games to cut the deficit to one goal at 2-1. Sophomore defensemen Bo Hanson and Philip Alftberg assisted on the play.

Despite the Saints having the better of the play for most of the second period, it was the Raiders who found the back of the net in the middle frame. Hunter Racine was credited with a fluky bounce off a scramble in front that popped high over Zetterquist, who was covering the near post while a host of players battled for the rebound, and trickled over the line at 13:50 for a 3-1 Colgate lead

Colgate held onto to its two-goal lead until the 19:00 mark of the third period, when Risteau put a wrister into the far left corner of the cage to pull the Saints within a goal yet again. Hanson picked up his second assist of the night on the play, with Gleekel getting the secondary.

St. Lawrence ramped up the offensive pressure in the final minutes of play and dominated possession after pulling Zetterquist for the extra attacker, but that would be as close as they'd come.

The Saints outshot Colgate 9-4 in the final frame and 25-21 in the game on Friday night.

Zetterquist finished with 18 saves in the loss for the Saints, while Benson made 23 stop to help Colgate to the win.

With the loss, St. Lawrence falls to 4-22-1 overall and 2-12-1 in conference games. Colgate improves to 8-17-2 and 5-8-2 on the season.

The Saints will travel to Ithaca, New York to take on No. 10/9 Cornell on Saturday night at Lynah Rink.
