To the Editor:
We thought we were protected, that our rights were protected by the Constitution and the people who officially vow publicly, people that we vote for, to uphold those rights.
Trump and his administration have now broken vows they publicly promised to uphold while our justice system is standing by largely lethargic and ineffective. In the midst expelling people seeking refuge in our country, Trump has now allowed 17 members of a prominent Mexican Cartel family into the United States.
He and his administration have brought in white South Africans who he inaccurately claims are subject to a genocide while sending immigrants seeking refuge here to Sudan, a nation that has long been embroiled in civil war.
People ‘disappear’ off the streets, our American streets! These are vast affronts on our own liberty, no matter where we were born.
If this can happen despite Constitutionally guaranteed protection, it can happen to you and me. We must strive to uphold these rights for everyone, or ultimately, they will not be there for anyone.
