Phantoms in the Park returns to Canton Oct. 25

Volunteers sought for community youth event

CANTON— Spooky festivities will descend on Canton Village Green park with Phantoms in the Park, being hosted Saturday, Oct. 25  by the St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce.

Activities will begin in the park at 12 p.m. Saturday with a costume contest, followed by a costume parade.

Chamber representative Tom Graser said the expanded community event will feature new offerings and activities for local kids.

The costume parade begins and ends in the park, traveling down both sides of Main Street.

The Chamber is still seeking volunteers to help make the event a success. Volunteers are needed to set up and run simple games or activities of their own design, act as judges in the costume contest, and monitor street crossings during the parade.

A free community pumpkin carving and painting station is being offered by Nature up North in cooperation with Grasse River Heritage.

The carved pumpkins will later be moved to Heritage Park to light the trail overnight for display, and can be retrieved starting Monday, Oct. 27.

Phantoms in the Park will also feature a range of activities and games provided by various local groups and students from both St. Lawrence University and SUNY Canton.

The afternoon will also include a “Touch-a-Truck” area with vehicles from the Canton Rescue Squad and the St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office.

The St. Lawrence County Center for History and Culture will be hosting activities in the park and participating in the parade.

North Country Savings Bank and their mascot Buck the Eagle will also be on hand with hot chocolate and treats.
