I was wondering...why doesn't the Parishville town board figure out what they might accept for a PILOT agreement before they actually get presented with one?
I read one of the leases from the wind company and the whole process strikes me as backward. Isn't the landlord supposed to write the terms of the lease?
As far a PILOT goes, I am philosophically opposed to the whole idea, being a proponent of free markets. It is a given that my views are in the minority, however, it still concerns me that the rest of us will suffer at least 2 percent inflation over the proposed PILOT period while the wind company starts at today's rates and stays there.
Perhaps we can guarantee that town and school boards expenses will not exceed today's amount for the next 20 years? I thought not.
If I were a company who wanted to move into the community, I would propose to move us all forward together bearing my share of the burden. Isn't that what the rest of us do?
