I encourage all Village of Morristown taxpayers to pick up a copy of this budget at the village offices, 137 High St.
The amount that is proposed to be raised by tax (total tax levy) for the seven month period ending with dissolution on December 31, 2019 is approximately the same as was raised for the entire FY(Fiscal Year) 2019, June 1, 2018 to May 31, 2019.
The FY 2020 figure is $313,240. The FY 2019 figure was $312,815. The tax rate for FY 2020 is $11.74/$1000 whereas it was $11.75 for FY 2019. Village taxpayers should question why they will be paying the same in tax for seven months ending December 31, 2019 as they paid for the entire year ending May 31. 2019.
It would seem that the tax levy for FY 2020 should be approximately 7/12 of FY 2019. Please pick up a copy of the budget and educate yourselves.
I understand that the next village board meeting is scheduled for May 14, 6 p.m. at the village offices.
