POTSDAM — North Country Matters host Donna Seymour talks with Krista Hesdorfer, the Director of Public Affairs for Hunger Solutions New York, a nonprofit organization dealing with food insecurity issues across our state.
They discuss the current state of hunger in New York after a hard winter where many people were impacted by the SNAP crises and the delay in HEAP funds created by the federal government last fall. They look at what is needed in the NYS budget this year to take care of vulnerable people and the harm caused by HR 1 which may be worsened with a reauthorization of the Farm Bill by Congress.
They discuss effective advocacy at both the state and federal level and how important this year's election will be to change the Congress which has allowed so much harm resulting in the affordability crises and rising hunger across NY and the nation.
