POTSDAM – New Horizons Band of Northern New York has announced enrollment is open for the spring semester of this innovative music program for senior adults who wish to learn to play a concert band instrument and play in a band.
Adults with no (or long ago) music experience are invited to an information meeting at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 12 at the Potsdam Civic Center Community Room.
Those interested may try out concert band instruments to find out which one is right for them courtesy of Northern Music and Video.
Rehearsals begin Monday, Feb. 8 at 8 a.m. on SUNY Potsdam Campus.
Instruction is provided by Crane School of Music music education students, guided by Dr. Michael Schaff, Associate Professor, Instrumental Conducting Music Education
Potsdam launched its New Horizons Band of Northern New York in September 2009 with 28 enrollees. As rehearsals are Monday mornings at 8 a.m., most of the members are retired. However, a few members have made arrangements with employers to enable their participation.
All band instruments are welcome: flutes, clarinets, saxophones, oboes, bassoons, trumpets, French horns, baritones, trombones, tubas and percussion.
