St. Lawrence County residents are advised to make alternate plans on Wednesday, Feb. 11, due to planned road closures between Massena and Potsdam, and Potsdam and Malone.
National Grid will be moving a large piece of substation equipment from the CSX railyard in Massena to the site of its Malone substation. Roadways will be cleared and closed between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to support safe delivery, with rolling closings and openings as the transport approaches and departs the area.
Depending on weather and road conditions, it’s possible that the transportation of the equipment will not be completed until the following day, Feb. 12.
The equipment will take the following route, which was developed in coordination with the New York State Department of Transportation and local officials: Depart the CSX Massena railyard and proceed north on Main Street (State Highway 420) to St. Regis Boulevard (State Highway 37); proceed west on St. Regis Boulevard (State Highway 37) to Andrews Street (State Highway 56); proceed south on State Highway 56 to Elm Street in the village of Potsdam (State Highway 11B); proceed east on State Highway 11B to Finney Boulevard (State Route 30) in Malone; proceed south on Finney Boulevard (State Route 30) to Spring Flower Drive; proceed east on Spring Flower Drive then turn south on Webster Street, ending at the National Grid substation.
National Grid urges residents to heed all traffic warnings as the equipment is transported. The work is expected to be complete in one day, but inclement weather could result in a lengthier delivery period.
For questions or concerns about the project or the delivery, contact National Grid at (315) 778-5317.
