CANTON — Matt Milograno has been named the next head coach of the SUNY Canton women's soccer program, as announced on Wednesday, July 31.

Milograno joins the Roos after spending the last two seasons as the SUNY Cortland men's and women's soccer goalkeeping coach.

The 2023 season saw Milograno help catapult both the men's and women's programs to SUNYAC championships. His men's goalkeeper earned All-Region honors, was the SUNYAC Rookie of the Year and he was part of a coaching staff named both the Region 3 and SUNYAC Coaching Staff of the Year.  The men's team made back-to-back NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 appearances in 2022 and 2023 as they finished the season ranked 10th and 13th nationally, respectively.

"Matt has achieved tremendous success with top men's and women's soccer programs both regionally and nationally at Cortland," Athletic Director Randy Sieminski said. "He has outstanding experience as an assistant coach at several D-III institutions that will serve him well as a head coach. We are looking forward to him getting started and elevating the level of our women's soccer program as we enter the SUNYAC."

Both the women's and men's teams were back-to-back SUNYAC regular season champions in his two seasons on the bench with the women ranking in the top 20 nationally in 2022. During his two seasons grooming the women's goalkeepers they posted goals against averages of 0.48 and 0.80 with 20 combined shutouts. He was also a part of the SUNYAC Women's Soccer Coaching Staff of the Year in 2023.

Prior to Cortland, Milograno served as an assistant coach and goalkeeping coach at Sage Colleges from August 2020 through May 2022. The Gators earned eight all-league awards during his tenure and advanced to the 2020-21 Empire 8 championship match. He also served as assistant women's soccer coach and men's soccer goalkeeping coach at SUNY Cobleskill from January 2019 to May 2020.

"I am very excited to be joining a program making a big move to the SUNYAC. I would like to thank Randy Sieminski and the search committee for entrusting me to lead the program through this transition," Milograno said. "I'm ready for the challenge of SUNYAC soccer and look forward to helping create a culture of excellence on and off the field for the program. I'm looking forward to hitting the ground running, meeting the players and getting started with preseason."

Milograno is the owner and head coach at BLGK Academy for goalkeeper training in Central New York. Over 50 of the goalkeepers he has instructed have gone on to play for NCAA D-I/D-II/D-III and NJCAA programs. He served as goalkeeping coach for the FC Dutchmen in 2019-20 and since 2022 has been the goalkeeping coach and U15 boys head coach for Syracuse Rush.

A 2018 Utica University graduate with a bachelor's degree in Business Economics, Milograno played in goal for the Pioneers for four seasons. He is currently pursuing his Master's degree in Sport Performance Psychology from the University of Western States. The Utica native is a 2014 alumnus of Whitesboro High School, where he lettered in soccer and was a member of the National Honor Society.

Milograno holds a United States Soccer Federation National D coaching license and a United Soccer Coaches Goalkeepers Level 2 diploma.
