MASSENA — The Massena Central School employees have started a collection for a family of six in the district that had house fire Sept. 7, as well as spreading the word to find temporary lodging for them.
“We have a MCSD family that had a house fire last night. The house is not a total loss which is good news and they are planning to fix the damage and move back in. In the meantime, the family is going to need a place to stay that will accomodate 6 people and is a short term or monthly rental,” wrote Kristin Colarusso-Martin, the school’s community schools director & food service director, in an email to the school community.
“If anyone has any housing resources that they can share, please send them along to myself, Nicole Lapage (nlapage@mcs.k12.ny.us), Jordan Helmer (jhelmer@mcs.k12.ny.us), and Nick White (Nicholas.White@use.salvationarmy.org),” Colarusso-Martin said.
Colarusso-Martin said the family also has need for several items, including: beds for all four kids and mom when they are ready to move back in; a building contractor to restore the house, a dump trailer or dumpster for removal of demo material and building materials to be determined.
Those who wish to donate, or provide leads on obtaining the items for the family can email those listed by Colarusso-Martin.
