Lorna L. Sloan, 95, Heuvelton

HEUVELTON -- Funeral services for Lorna L. Sloan, age 95 of Heuvelton will be held on Wednesday (July 17, 2024) at 2pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Nichols officiating. Entombment will follow at the Oswegatchie Mausoleum. Calling hours will be held prior to the funeral from 12:00 to 2:00pm at the funeral home. Mrs. Sloan passed away on Tuesday evening at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse with her family by her side.

Surviving are her two sons Kenneth (MaryAnn) Sloan of Heuvelton and James (Jerrylyn) Sloan of Syracuse; grandchildren Shane, William, Jordan, Jenna & Justin Sloan and great-grandchildren Austin, Kennedy, Piper, Ember Indie and Bodhi Sloan; along with nieces, nephews & cousins.

She was predeceased by her husband Donald Sloan in 2009; and three sisters Augusta Lawyer, Eileen Youngs and Marion Youngs.

Lorna was born on August 19, 1928 in the Town of Macomb, a daughter of the late Frank & Nina (Brown) Lawyer. She graduated from Morristown Central School and was later married to Donald G. Sloan in 1951 at the Galilee Parsonage with Rev. Meyers celebrating their marriage.

During her career she worked at the Edwardsville Grocery, did house cleaning for area families, and the Heuvelton Post Office where she retired from in 1987 after 20 years of service as Post Master.

She was a member of the OES Chapter #60 of DePeyster and the DePeyster United Methodist Church. She enjoyed dancing, playing cards, traveling and spending time with friends and family. Memorial contributions can be made to the Morristown Fire Department.
