To the Editor:
To start with, I wish to thank the gentleman from Massena who identified my error. I should have written the United States is "... among the world's biggest polluters." But the U.S. consumption of Chinese goods contributes to China's emissions. The U.S. imports 15% of China's exports, which is nearly twice the second nation. To return the favor, I ask how 40 cents is 4 times more than 18 cents?
I disagree with his statement that all we can do as individuals is recycle and watch consumption. The environmental movement is way past recycling. If he would look into the organizations I suggested, he would discover that there is much being done and to be done by the individuals in these organizations.
All that being said, he seems to ignore my main issue, which is Trump's negative impact on US and Global efforts to mitigate Climate Change. In his first term, he rolled back more than 125 environmental rules and policies. And now, following the hottest year (2024) on record, he "...has logged nearly 100 efforts (in 2025) to scale back or eliminate federal climate mitigation" (Columbia U. Sabin Center for Climate Change Laws).
Here are some of the major ones: More Logging in National Forests, Phasing Out FEMA, Fast-Tracking Deep Sea Drilling, Blocking State Climate Laws, Increasing oil and gas production, EPA Deregulation and Staffing Cuts, NOAA Staff Cuts, Withdrawing from Paris Accords, Pausing Electric Vehicle Adoption.
All these topics are widely written about if you are interested.
