To the Editor:

I was honored to be a part of the Vietnam Veteran Honor flight on June 21 – 23, 2024. Me, along with lifetime friends, Leo Grant, Rodger Murray, John Collins and our wives were all lucky enough to be part of this once in a lifetime event. The guys and I have not stopped talking about it. At the airport hangar, two planes flying 26 people from Plattsburgh to Washington Dulles airport.

I can’t tell you how much it meant to us to be escorted from the Amvets by the State Troopers and the Fire Department, motorcycles leading the way. It was truly an honor being given a wonderful send off by so many community members, family and friends. The experience was truly humbling, words can never express my appreciation. Thank you, Billy Collins and the troopers for them putting everything together with the Plattsburgh Committee for Vietnam Vets. It honestly could not have been better done, from sending off to the wonderful dinner and getting home on Sunday. Please keep us informed of upcoming events as we would love to help in any way we can.

We are still working on getting the Transfer Station open. I pushed as hard as I could to get it open in June, but that is how construction goes sometimes, always delays.

We have three bids for pavement between Kirk Robideau’s property and ice -skating arena to be paved and marked for emergency exits. The first one is J.E. Sheehan Contracting Corp., Ward’s Excavation & Paving and Grasse River Asphalt & Painting. Out of the three, the lowest bidder is Ward’s Excavation & Paving. Mark Fisher’s work with the sidewalk is also coming along nicely.

Lazy Hazy Days of Colton is coming along nicely. It should be a nice parade beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Cold Brook Drive. I’m hoping everyone can be there and possibly participate in some way. Don’t forget to join us for the fireworks at the Fireman’s Field on July 20th with entertainment from 7:30 – 9:00 p.m. In case of rain, they will be held on July 21st.

The Wounded Warrior ATV/UTV Side by Side ride on Saturday, June 15th had a terrific turnout. Everyone had a good time, the pulled pork was delicious.

I wish everyone a fun and safe summer.
