Joseph S. Johnson, 68, Ogdensburg

A Memorial Service for Joseph S. Johnson, 68, of Ogdensburg will be held on Thursday,  January 11, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at Frary Funeral Home with Deacon Mark Lalonde officiating.  A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service.  Burial will be held in the spring time.  Mr. Johnson died on Saturday, January 6th, 2024 at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center following a long illness.

Arrangements are under the direction of Frary Funeral Home.

Joseph S. Johnson was born on April 22, 1955, in Ogdensburg, NY.   He was the son of the late Ronald and Joan (LaFlair) Johnson.  He attended Ogdensburg City Schools.  On January 3rd, 1981 he married Carol Lorraine Bice in Red Mills, Carol passed away on March 16, 2015.  On April 20th, 2017 he married Deatta Youngs.   Joe was employed as a Mechanic for the majority of his career as well as a Service Manager for many local Ogdensburg garages.  Working for Maple City Auto for 19 years and most recently for Reagan’s Collision in Ogdensburg.  Joe enjoyed helping people in his capacity as a Tow Truck Operator, going to the casino, the Buffalo Bills, NASCAR, Traveling, he loved his dog “Sinda” and he was a huge fan of Hawaiian Shirts and never turned down a good hot dog.  Also among his past times were bowling, playing cards and sitting on the porch keeping an eye on the neighborhood.  Most of all he loved spending time with his friends and family.

He is survived by his wife, Deatta Johnson; his children, William Harper of Ogdensburg, Ramona (Andrew) Kennedy of Rensselaer Falls, Mark Martin of Lisbon, Gerald (Kimberly) Martin of Lisbon, ReBecca (Fiancé Douglas Snider) Quicke of Ogdensburg and Kasandra (Nicholas) French of Harrisville.  He is survived by his sister, Debbie (Timothy) Burke of Ogdensburg; and his step-siblings, Leslie (Darlene) O’ Marah of Ogdensburg, Mary Hannah (Ronald) Conant of Ogdensburg and Arlene (Danny) Kiah of Ogdensburg. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Nathan (Jessica) Kennedy, William “Cody” Harper, Abigail Harper, Cheyenne Martin, Patrick Martin, Devyn Johnston, Kali Martin, Desiree Johnston, Alex Martin, Dylan Johnston, Ethan Martin, Noah Martin, Kyle Durkee, Axel French, Bentley French and Harlow French; as well as many great-grandchildren and three nephews, Mark, Michael and Joseph Burke, who he was very close to. ;

He was predeceased by his first wife, Carol Johnson, his sons, Yancy “Boomer” Harper and James Martin; his step-brother, Allen O'Marah; and his step-mother, Lucinda "Cindy" Johnson and his step-father, Edward "Ed" Hutchinson..

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Richard E. Winter Cancer Center 5 Lyon Place Ogdensburg, NY 13669.
