Photographer and custom framer Beverly Patchin to be featured by The Gallery in Waddington

WADDINGTON - Photographer and custom framer Beverly Patchin will be featured by The Gallery at Lake Saint Lawrence Arts, 14 Main St.

Her exhibit “Photo Journey – New England to Alaska” will run April 4-27, on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

On April 5 and April 20, she will be available for discussion of her techniques during those times.

As a child, Beverly was always taking photos. During most of her working years, she was an accountant and mother to 4 children. In later years she was able to take some photography courses as well as internet courses.

After she retired, and while in Florida in 2007, she found out that the Professional Photographers of America were having their convention in Tampa, so she went.

That started her career in photography. She began her business Bluebird Gallery in 2008. Beverly started out taking professional portraits of people and pets in Florida during the winter. While in New York in the summers and falls, she concentrated on portrait sessions of high school seniors, children, and pets.

She now has drifted away from the portrait sessions because she enjoys finding and taking nature photos of things other people might not notice. She says she gets a “natural high” from taking a good photo of something as common as a mushroom or as spectacular as a summer sunset.

Patchin is a core member of The Gallery at Lake Saint Lawrence Arts in Waddington, and is the newspaper advertising person there.

She exhibits framed and matted photos as well as cards and gift items at the Gallery. She is also a member of the Massena Art Association in Massena; the Thousand Islands Art Center in Clayton; Frederick Remington Art Gallery in Ogdensburg; and the St. Lawrence Art Council in Potsdam. She exhibits in all these art centers when their juried shows are announced and has won various prizes in them.

She also has other outlets for her work including Singer Castle in the Thousand Islands, Pickens General Store in Heuvelton, TAUNY in Canton, and the St. Lawrence Art Council in Potsdam.

Patchin took up custom framing as a necessary activity associated with her photography. Now she does it professionally as well and has been doing it for about three years. She works from the Gallery in Waddington and accepts referrals from TAUNY in Canton and the St. Lawrence Art Council as well as word-of-mouth and personal contacts.
