HERMON — Sixth graders at Hermon-DeKalb Central School District are now helping ensure the safety of their fellow students at dismissal by serving on the new HDCS Safety Patrol.
School Resource Deputy Patrick Chapman recruited the help of the sixth-grade class to form the patrol.
At the end of each school day, students are stationed along the entire sidewalk near the school buses to make sure students, along with staff, are practicing safety.
The students have been trained to look for a variety of issues, including people crossing without using a crosswalk and students who may be running.
The students in the Safety Patrol report all findings to Deputy Chapman.
