Assemblyman Scott Gray (R-Watertown) congratulated two local basketball teams who showcased their talent in state title games on Sunday, March 17.

The Hammond Red Devils won their second straight New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Girls’ Class D basketball championship, beating Northville 54-34 at Hudson Valley Community College.

The Sackets Harbor boys’ basketball team competed in Glens Falls on Sunday looking to bring home the Boys’ Class D title, but narrowly fell short to North Warren.

“Congratulations to the Hammond girls’ basketball team on their well-deserved back-to-back triumph,” Gray said. “You all continue to be an inspiration for local athletes. Additionally, I commend Sackets Harbor for their valiant efforts in pursuit of the championship. Despite the narrow loss, your resilience and spirit were truly commendable. I look forward to cheering you on and celebrating your achievements as you return to the North Country.”

“My sincere appreciation goes out to all the North Country athletes in all sports who showcased their talent and commitment this winter sports season and those who continued onto the championship path. And best wishes to all athletes who will compete this spring season, best of luck,” Gray concluded.
