GOUVERNEUR -- A Gouverneur man was jailed recently following an alleged domestic dispute, according to village police.
Ashley D. Fifield, 36, was charged with with second-degree assault, felony, criminal obstruction of breathing, second-degree criminal contempt and two counts of endangering welfare of a child, police said.
Police said Fifield allegedly caused serious physical injury to the victim when he punched her left side with a closed fist, then he allegedly put both his hands on the victim’s throat while in the presence of two children.
The victim sought medical treatment for a broken rib.
Fifield violated an order of protection during the incident.
Fifield was processed and arraigned before the Gouverneur Town Court Judge Travis Dann and remanded to the St. Lawrence Correctional Facility on $2,500 bail.
The arrest took place March 14, police said.
