POTSDAM – Girl Scout troops from Racquette Valley Neighborhood again this year took on the service project of making fleece pillows to be donated to the emergency room at Canton-Potsdam Hospital.
More than 150 girls from 17 different troops in the Madrid-Waddington, Colton-Pierrepont, Norwood-Norfolk, Parishville-Hopkinton, and Potsdam school districts helped complete the project. More than 100 pillows were donated, including many that were sewn as patchwork quilt dogs, made from the fabric ends left over from what was needed for the square pillows.
“The girls displayed great teamwork while working on this project,” said Sandy Mallory, nutrition services cafeteria worker and coordinator of the service project. “They very much enjoy giving back to the community and took personal pride in this project to bring comfort to kids, like themselves, during a stay at the hospital,” Mallory said.
Emergency department staff were on hand to thank the Girl Scouts and accept the pillows.
