CANTON – A former SUNY Potsdam student faces a first-degree rape charge after being indicted by a St. Lawrence County grand jury on Thursday.
It is alleged that Jared Hussey, 18, who formerly resided on campus in Bowman Hall, engaged in sexual intercourse with another person who was incapable of consent by reason of being physically helpless. The alleged incident took place Dec. 4 in the Village of Potsdam.
According to a statement from St. Lawrence County District Attorney Gary Pasqua, this indictment arose from an incident that is alleged to have occurred in the early morning hours of December 4, 2021, on SUNY Potsdam’s campus.
According to District Attorney Pasqua, “April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. My Office encourages any victim of sexual assault, particularly any victims attending one of the four universities located in St. Lawrence County, to disclose such crimes to members of law enforcement.”
In other grand jury action:
Brett Mason, 36 of 4 Rogers Drive, Norfolk, was indicted on four counts of driving while intoxicated and two counts of first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
It is alleged that on July 14 in the Town of Brasher and again on March 13 in the Town of Stockholm, Mason was the operator of a motor vehicle in an intoxicated condition knowing his license had been revoked or suspended.
Sherry Carmon, 54, of 133 County Route 27A, Fine, was indicted for first-degree unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, aggravated driving while intoxicated, driving while ability impaired by drugs, and endangering the welfare of a child.
Carmon is accused of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs on Nov. 17 in the Town of Fine. At that time, there was a child under the age of 15 as a passenger.
