POTSDAM – The first Men’s Singles Pickleball Tournament in St. Lawrence County was held at Maxcy Hall, SUNY Potsdam, Feb. 13.
Gold medalist was George White, of Norwood. Pete Anderson, of Potsdam, was silver medalist. Bronze medalist was Kyle Bouchard, of Ogdensburg.
The event was an open tournament, with players as young as 30 years old.
Organizers were Sabel Bong, Dillon Chichester, Teresa Fisher and Marty Andrews.
“Winner George White played awesome. He had to play a total of nine games to win the tournament,” said Andrews.
“We formed North Country Pickleball Club three weeks ago, using Facebook, and already have nearly 100 members, said Fisher.
“Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the U.S, and we are excited that Potsdam is involved and a hub for this movement. Additional indoor places to play include Massena, Ogdensburg and Canton,” she said.
The club is hosting beginner clinics and skill training sessions.
