POTSDAM– Two St. Lawrence County residents were arrested Thursday after they allegedly stole more than $1,300 worth of merchandise from the Potsdam Walmart store, according to State Police.
John G. Barto, 51, of Brasher Falls, was charged June 11 with one count fourth-degree grand larceny and fifth-degree conspiracy, State Police say.
Tanya M. Sochia, 42, of Norfolk, was charged June 11 with fifth-degree conspiracy, according to State Police.
On Wednesday, June 10, Troopers responded to Walmart, located on U.S. Highway 11 in the town of Potsdam, for an alleged larceny complaint.
A State Police investigation determined two individuals entered the store and allegedly stole merchandise valued at approximately $1,358.17 by passing all points of purchase without paying. Barto and Sochia were reportedly stopped and questioned by store personnel before leaving the store.
Barto and Sochia were located later and transported to State Police Canton for processing.
Barto and Sochia were arraigned in Norfolk Town Court and were released on their own recognizance.
