CANTON — The St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce is putting the finishing touches on the 30th annual Canton Winterfest, scheduled for Feb. 6–15.

The townwide festival celebrates winter in the North Country with 10 days of recreational activities, shopping discounts and community programming. The event is supported by lead sponsor Macfadden Dier Insurance.

This year’s milestone anniversary features a diverse schedule highlighting Canton’s community and character.

Featured events include:

Cardboard sled races (Feb. 7): Nature Up North will host the event at the SUNY Canton sledding hill. Participants build sleds using only cardboard, duct tape, recycled bags, paint and glue, competing for speed and “best in show” awards.

Wine and spirits tastings (Feb. 6, 7, 13 and 14): Riverside Liquor will host wine appreciation sessions throughout the festival, featuring local and regional selections.

Winter memory collection (Feb. 14): The Canton Historian’s Office will collect personal stories about winter in Canton, including memories of snowstorms, sledding and skating, for preservation in the town’s historical record.

Support local and win

Winterfest buttons for 2026, designed by Canton High School student Tessa Alguire, will be available for purchase for $3 each or two for $5 at participating businesses, including Grasse River Outfitters, Nature’s Storehouse, the Best Western University Inn, Cellar 25b, White’s Flowers and GOAL.

Button purchases provide access to discounts at participating businesses, including 20% off at Nature’s Storehouse and 15% off food at the Best Western, and serve as entries into the Winterfest raffle. Prizes include an overnight stay at the Best Western, gift certificates and floral baskets.

Business participation

The chamber continues to seek additional sponsors, raffle prizes and participating businesses.

“Winterfest is about celebrating everything that makes Canton a great place to live,” said Tom Graser of the St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce. “We are still welcoming new partners who want to offer discounts or donate prizes to help make this 30th year our most successful yet.”
