Canton Zonta Club honors members on International Women's Day

CANTON - Each year in March, the Zonta Club of Canton presents a varying number of local community members with a token of its symbol, a long-stemmed yellow rose, to coincide with International Women’s Day, March 8.  The purpose of the award is to honor individuals who have made an impact on the lives of those they serve, whether through employment or volunteer work.  The 2024 recipients are Anna Campbell of Madrid and Brenda Snow of Canton.

Anna Campbell is well known in her community as a major doer. She is President of the Seaway Valley Seniors Club and a co-founder of the very popular Madrid Dam Concert Series. For several years, Anna has collected Prom dresses and offered them to those who may need that special dress for the big dance. She helps New Beginnings Clothing & Food Pantry and is a strong supporter of our Veterans. Although she is no longer a member of the Zonta Club of Canton, she continues to assist the club in so many ways with its various fundraisers. In fact, it seems as though Anna is often somehow involved when an organization needs help; she is willing to lend a hand in any way she can.

Brenda Snow received her yellow rose pin from Zonta Club member Kathy Del Guidice. The yellow rose means friendship, joy, and caring, which Ms. Snow emulates. She is admired throughout the region for her amazing support of community causes. No matter the request, she gives generously, supporting her employees, Canton, and surrounding communities. Well known for its fine floral arrangements, Snow’s business spreads joy with its beautiful floral arrangements and gifts while offering friendly and prompt service on all occasions.

The Zonta Club of Canton congratulates our 2024 Rose Day winners.

Since its inception in 1911, International Women’s Day has remained an important day of recognition as the world works to advance women’s equality. This global day belongs to everyone everywhere celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. It is a day to honor women, and Zonta clubs around the world acknowledges it by awarding a yellow rose to exceptional members of their communities.

The Zonta Club of Canton has fun working together to improve the quality of life for women in the North Country and, through affiliation with Zonta International, throughout the world. The club advocates for women and provides service where there is a need. Funding educational scholarships and grants, supporting programs created to prevent violence and abuse against women and girls, disseminating relevant information, and funding projects that promote health, safety, human rights, and fundamental freedoms are priorities of the local club’s members.
