A vote against Trump shows support for farmers

To the Editor:

According to the Heritage Foundation's documents on project 2025, a Trump win this election cycle would lead to local north country farmers receiving less support from the federal government.

While I am not a farmer myself, I work as a crafter at the Canton and Potsdam Farmers markets, and do not wish for my farmer neighbors to be harmed by anti-farmer policies enacted by an additional Trump presidential term.

While Project 2025's intentions for farms are complicated, some brief highlights of how it would hurt local farmers include:

Reduced disaster relief for farmers suffering from natural disasters. Project 2025 would reduce the amount of economic relief that farmers receive from bad weather.

Lower subsidies for vital crops such as corn. Project 2025 plans on drastically reducing government subsidies.

Farmers would be no longer able to collect both ARC and PLC support the same year. The ARC and PLC programs give vital support to farmers in case of fluctuating market prices and other financial woes.

Project 2025 would also scale back the USDA in general, reducing the federal government's ability to help farmers both large and small.

I cannot stand idly by while a plan to harm my farmer neighbors is in action. I support my local farmers, and so I will vote against project 2025, by voting against Trump this November, and I recommend all of my neighbors in the north country who support local farmers to do the same.
