CANTON — The St. Lawrence University swimming and diving program is honored to be the beneficiary of a generous endowment, courtesy of members of the 1976 national championship-winning team. This donation to the swim program was made in honor of the team's coach, Scott Woodburn, who turned 80 in late 2023.

As part of the endowment, a senior banquet award will be re-named in Scott Woodburn's honor. The Coach Scott Woodburn Scholar-Athlete Award will honor the top male and female Laurentian athletes across all sports for their academic and leadership excellence.

"We are so grateful to the members of the swimming and diving team alumni who were so gracious in their donation," said Bob Durocher, Senior Associate Vice President of Athletics at St. Lawrence. "These funds will strengthen the student-athlete experience in this program for years to come. We also are thrilled to recognize the impact of Scott Woodburn on the swimming and diving program with the re-naming of our Scholar-Athlete Award."

Nominations for the award will be made by the Athletic Director, in consultation with a committee that includes coaches and other personnel drawn from all 35 St. Lawrence athletic programs. The award will be presented annually at the senior athletic banquet. All senior athletes – not just members of the swim team – will be eligible.

Scoring for the academic achievement section of the award is based on the undergraduate cumulative grade point average of the nominee. St. Lawrence staff will score the athletics excellence and service/leadership qualities of the athletes. Athletes will also be asked to submit a personal statement which will be reviewed by the committee deciding on the award recipients.
