Homeschooled kids are not allowed to play on public school teams in New York, but that wasn't always the case. Now, some parents and lawmakers are trying to change state law. Two senators have co-sponsored  a bill that would allow "school districts to permit home-schooled students to participate in district interscholastic sports." Over 30 states allow homeschooled students to participate in public school sports. Do you support allowing homeschooled students to participate on public school teams?

It is fair season around the state, and this year the Gouverneur and St. Lawrence County Fair will be held July 30 through August. 4. In nearby Franklin County, the fair runs Aug. 3-11. Also, the New York State Fair in Syracuse is held Aug. 21 through Sept. 2. Do you plan to attend any fairs this year?

If the meows and barks seem a bit louder at the local animal shelter, there is a good reason. Too many homeless pets. The Potsdam Humane Society is full, nearly unable to accept any pets that may come through their doors. On top of that, the number of volunteers needed to take care of the animals is shrinking, according to Eudora Watson, Potsdam Humane Society Animal Enrichment and Adoption Volunteer Coordinator.
