POTSDAM — Two men were arrested on drug charges following an investigation dubbed “Operation Car Wreck” that involved multiple kilos of cocaine being distributed locally, according to St. Lawrence County sheriff’s investigators.
Christopher M. Cruz, 21, Potsdam, was charged with second-degree conspiracy, felony, and Camron R. Waters, Slingerlands, was charged with fourth-degree conspiracy, deputies said.
It is alleged that Cruz was a “shop” for alleged drug dealer Joshua Carr, who was previously arrested and was a source of distributing large amounts of cocaine to Canton, Potsdam and Massena areas through multiple distributors.
Cruz reportedly held a large role in the organization, investigators said.
Waters assisted by driving vehicles to Bronx to pick up large amounts of cocaine with Carr and other conspirators and brought the drugs back to St. Lawrence County, officers said.
Cruz was arraigned in Canton court by Town Justice Michael Morgan and released under the supervision of probation, investigators said. Waters was cited and released.
Detectives say they are seeking other individuals as part of their investigation and more arrests are expected.
Also assisting in the investigation were Potsdam police and U.S. Department of Homeland Security Investigations Border Enforcement Task Force (BEST).
