Brasher, Colton, Potsdam and Stockholm governments close, change hours to address coronavirus threat

The towns of Brasher, Colton and Potsdam and Stockholm town court have changed their office hours and availability of other services in light of the coronavirus epidemic.

Brasher

The Town of Brasher supervisor has declared a state of emergency due to the coronavirus pandemic.

It begins at 4 p.m. today, March 17, and lasts through the morning of April 8.

In an effort to safeguard Brasher residents and town employees, the Courthouse and Town Hall will be closed to the public effective March 17 at 4 p.m.

Town employees will report to work to answer calls from members of the public. Payments and documents can be sent via US Mail or dropped in a drop box outside the Town Hall building near the court door at end of sidewalk. People can make appointments for in-person meetings.

Tax payments due on March 31 should be sent via US Mail or dropped in the drop box.

Town officials are keeping in contact with the St. Lawrence County Health Department as this matter progresses, Brasher town officials said.

The public can review updates on the coronavirus at health.ny.gov and cdc.gov.

Colton

Effective immediately, the Colton town board has closed all non-essential offices and departments.

Town offices are closed to the public as of March 17. Business will be conducted by phone, mail or email. Payments for taxes and water/sewer can be mailed to 94 Main St., Colton NY 13625 or put in the drop box to the right of the front door or paid by credit card online at www.townofcolton.com, by phone 315-262-2810, or email at clerk1@townofcolton.com.

The Highway Department will be on call and only come in for essential services (snow, road clearing, etc.) Phone: 315-262-2500

All events at the community center and pavilion are canceled until further notice.

All planning and zoning board meetings are cancelled until further notice. Call code enforcement for any needs.

The BTI program will operate until further notice.

The monthly town board meeting for April 8 has been canceled. Board members will come to approve bills when notified. All other business will be tabled until the town returns to business as usual.

The Colton Hepburn Library is closed until April 20. People can look at the Colton Library website for additional information at coltonhepburnlibrary.org.

If there is a need for anything essential, people can contact the town supervisor’s office at 315-262-2810, extension 4 and leave a message with a name and phone number.

“The Town Board asks that all residents exercise caution and practice preventative measures as outlined by Public Health and the CDC. We are hopeful that this pandemic will pass in a timely fashion and the Town will be able to resume business as usual,” the Town Council said in an email.

Potsdam

The Village of Potsdam has decided to close its Civic Center as of 8 a.m. Wednesday, until further notice.

All services will continue to be available to residents, according to the announcement from the village. Those who want to pay a bill may do so on line or leave a payment in the drop box at the front door. The box will be monitored throughout the day from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Those who wish to purchase garbage bags may call 315-265-7480 and accommodations will be made for customers to pick them up.

Birth and death certificates will remain available. Call 315-265-7480 to make a request for these forms, and accommodations for people to receive them will be made as soon as possible.

The Code Enforcement Office will also remain open to serve the people of the Village of Potsdam. Building permit forms can be found on line or ca be obtained by calling 315-265-7678. The Code Office will be manned from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily to answer any building or local zoning questions you woild like to make by phone.

The Potsdam Public Museum and Pine Street Arena will remain closed, as previously noted.

These provisions will remain in effect until further notice.

The village regrets any inconvenience, and asks for understanding and cooperation.

In the event of any emergency call the Potsdam Police Department 315-265-2121 or emergency services at 911. The Police Department and County Emergency Services will remain open and fully staffed 24 hours a day.

Stockholm town court

Stockholm Town Court is cancelled through April, and possibly longer.

Their sessions for March 18 at 6 p.m., and April 8 at 4 and 6 p.m., are all called off.

Cases are adjourned, for now, to May 6.

People should call the week before to see if this has changed.

All pending civil matters are adjourned out for no less than 45 days with the adjourned date of June 3, corut officials said.
