North Country This Week
CANTON -- Three residents and two staffers at United Helpers Rehabilitation and Senior Care facility in Canton have tested positive for COVID-19.
Three residents and one of the staff members who tested positive were in the assisted living program. The residents are now hospitalized.
Another staff member who worked in the skilled nursing environment also tested positive, but no residents in that area have had a positive test.
Both employees are not currently working.
That information comes from Stacey Cannizzo, vice president of clinical services at United Helpers.
Cannizzo says the facility is locked down to reduce any further chance of spreading the virus. She said staff members are not floating back and forth between levels of care and residents are remaining in their rooms.
Cannizzo said staff members have been tested at least once a week over the past few months since the pandemic began and have been using personal protective equipment.
She said staff members are doing everything they can to keep residents safe.
Testing is done through local hospital systems, by appointment only. Call the following numbers between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. if you have symptoms or feel you should be tested:
St. Lawrence Health System: 315-261-6240
