AKWESASNE -- The St. Regis Mohawk Tribe has certified eight candidates for the official ballot for their June 2 election for chief, sub-chief and tribal clerk.
Their chief candidates are incumbent Eric Thompson and challenger Ron LaFrance Jr., who has previously held the office but was voted out three years ago. Cheryl Jacobs, a current sub-chief whose term is about to expire, is running a write-in campaign for chief.
Their sub-chief candidates are Cory Tarbell, Benjamin Herne and Marjorie Skidders.
Their tribal clerk candidates are Summer Bero and incumbent Betty Roundpoint.
All three of the positions up for election are three-year terms.
