St. Lawrence County Public Transit waiving fare collection until June 1

Posted

CANTON -- St. Lawrence County Public Transit (slcnypublictransit.com), operated by The Arc Jefferson - St. Lawrence, will continue waiving fare collection until June 1.

Customers must wear masks and may only travel for essential purposes until further notice.

Governor Andrew Cuomo issued an executive order stating that all public transit riders must wear a mask to use the bus. People without a mask or using a covering that goes over the nose and mouth will not be allowed to use SLC Public Transit.

Essential services that qualify for use of transit include food shopping, pharmacy, medical appointments, and employment. Anyone who is feeling ill should not utilize public transportation.

The public is invited to enter the “Show Off Your COVID Safety” contest on Facebook for a chance to win cash prizes until May 1: www.facebook.com/SLCPublicTransit.

Entrants in the Facebook contest may win one of three prizes: 1st Place: $100, 2nd Place: $50, or 3rd Place: $25.

Contestants may enter by putting a photo or video on the Facebook contest post, in the comments section, showing one or more of the safety measures emphasized during the COVID-19 pandemic such as: Staying Home, Washing Your Hands, and Social Distancing.

Voting has been extended to May 1 at 3 p.m. The three photos with the most votes (reactions) will win, so people should share the post to promote more votes for their entry.

Seating is limited to allow for social distancing. Buses have installed barriers around the drivers. Vehicles are being deeply cleaned between shifts and at the end of each day. Hand sanitizer is available for use.

Routes in operation are listed at http://slcnypublictransit.com/transit-schedules. People requiring access to essential services, who are not able to use Public Transit, may fill out this form to request assistance: https://form.jotform.com/200817539196159.

Customers may also call Public Transit at 315-386-2600 on Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

St. Lawrence County’s Public Transit System provides transportation throughout most towns in the County on Monday to Friday. Buses are wheelchair accessible, bicycle racks are available, and there is free Wi-Fi service. Find us on Facebook @SLCPublicTransit for more information.
