CANTON – When St. Catherine of Siena Academy in Canton begins the new school year on Sept. 6, school officials will see a 50 percent increase in enrollment, a full-time headmaster and a new Pre-K and kindergarten teacher.

Karl Doty will be on board as full-time headmaster and 5th grade teacher and Morgan Morse as Pre-K and Kindergarten teacher.

“We strive to furnish a student with the best possible education while working alongside parents to promote the student’s growth in virtue,” stated Doty.

Siena Academy will be adding a full-day Pre-K and 5th grade this year, keeping in line with the academy’s goal to add one grade per year.

Doty and Morse will be joining returning Siena Academy teachers Kathy Olsen in the 1st/2nd grade and Andrew Carpino in the 3rd/4th grade classrooms as well as Jill Josephs, who teaches Math.

Weekly curriculum will include grammar, literature, spelling, penmanship, composition, Latin, theology, math, science, history, geography, cultural studies, fine art, poetry, physical education, music, art, phonics (lower grades) and weekly Mass.

Siena Academy registrations will be accepted until Friday, Sept. 2 but will close when all available spots are filled.

“Siena Academy has a strong sense of community. The students are very tightly knit and families become involved with fundraisers, parties and concerts throughout the year. Our school would not exist without the dedication, prayers and positive influence of our families, Governing Board, and supporters, both locally and across the country,” Doty said. “In the coming school year, I'm most excited to work with our 5th graders as they delve into the heart of Latin, studying it five times per week.”

Music classes at Siena Academy will offer students a unique experience including deep listening, theory, eurhythmics  and choir, taught by Crane School of Music Associate Professor and Siena Academy parent Liesl Schoenberger Doty.

The school is located at 2 Powers St., Canton and busing is available to students who live in school districts within 15 miles of Canton Central Schools.
