CANTON - Retiring Town Clerk Lisa Hammond and outgoing Town Justice Rosemary Phillips were both recognized by the town board at its meeting Dec. 10, held virtually on the Zoom cloud conferencing platform.

“Lisa, on behalf of the town of Canton we would like to publicly recognize you for your over 30 years of service to the town of Canton,” said Town Supervisor Mary Ann Ashley.

“Over 30 years is a long time and your public service has been appreciated. We wish you nothing but the best in your future endeavors,” Ashley said.

“It went fast. I’m looking forward to the next 30 years,” Hammond said. “I don’t know how many times I’ve walked in and out of this front door, but it's been a lot of times.”

Hammond said she’s made a lot of friends over the years in the community and at the office.

“Thank you Lisa, you will be missed but not forgotten,” said Town Councilman Bob Washo.

“I will just jump in and thank Lisa for the many years. Hopefully she is willing to come back and we can do this not over Zoom, and something more proper.

“Lisa I just want to wish luck in your future endeavors,” said Town Councilwoman Karin Blackburn. “Enjoy your retirement.”

“As I mentioned yesterday, I spent 18 years with you Lisa; 8 as supervisor and 10 on the board,” said Town Councilman Jim Smith. “Lot of memories. . . It’s hard to believe that it's gone by.”

Outgoing Town Justice Rosemary Phillips, who was not in attendance at the meeting, was also honored.

“We wish nothing but the best for her as well. She’s been a great community member,” said Ashley. “We really appreciated her services as well.”

“It's been really great working with Rosemary. She certainly taught me quite a bit and helped me get going when I first started,” said Town Justice Mike Morgan. “She’ll be missed.”

“I’m going to miss her. She was a wonderful judge to work with,” said Town Court Clerk Marc Armstrong.
