Democrat incumbent Bill Owens of Plattsburgh has retained his seat in the race for the 23rd Congressional seat against Watertown's Republican Matt Doheny.
With only one district in both Jefferson County and Oneida County as well as absentee ballots uncounted, the total was 76,204 - 72,435 in favor of Owens.
Conservative Doug Hoffman, who dropped out last month and threw his support behind Doheny, received 9,536 votes because his name was still on the ballot on the Conservative Party line. Had his name not appeared on the ballot and those voting for him chosen Doheny instead, the Watertown banker would have easily won the race instead of Owens.
Here are incomplete, unofficial election results. The tallies also do not include mail-in ballots.
