CANTON – A relative newcomer to Canton politics but no stranger to the community of Canton, Randy Brown, is seeking one of two Canton Town Board seats in the Nov. 7 election.

Brown was appointed to the town board in February, filling the vacancy of Bob Washo who stepped down in December.

Brown, a Democrat, is one of three candidates seeking two seats in the Nov. 7 election. He is challenged by fellow Democrat Wayne Cuthbert and Republican incumbent Robert Santamoor.

“Some of these issues include, but are not limited to, working on downtown revitalization and creating unique economic opportunities, helping the recreation department enhance the Canton experience, and developing a new website for the village and town to make everything our area has to offer more accessible to the public,” he continued.

Brown cited his nearly 30-year teaching career and coaching at Canton Central School as reasons why he wants to give back to the community.

“Having deep roots in the Canton community as a 29-year teacher and coach at the high school, as well as raising my family here, drives me to put my best foot forward in representing the interests of the people of Canton,” Brown remarked. “I am organized, prepared, and willing to work with anyone that can help get the job done to the benefit of the town that we all call home.”

Brown said he’s ready to tackle the challenges ahead as a town councilman.

“As I look ahead to the future of Canton, there are many complex issues that we face. We will have to deal with the ongoing work of numerous solar projects, finish the rezoning that started with the Comprehensive Plan in partnership with the state back in 2016, and work to increase broadband services to the rural areas of our community. There is also always the yearly challenge of developing a town budget that is both fiscally sound and meets the needs of Canton residents,” he stated.

“It would be my honor to continue to serve as a Town Board member in the place I have called home, raised my children in, and worked in since 1990.”
