North Country Public Radio’s new Saturday night music show, The Thread, debuts on the station Feb. 1.

The show, which will air every Saturday night at 9 p.m., is hosted by renowned trumpeter, synthesist, and composer, Taylor Haskins.

A resident of the Champlain Valley, Haskins was recognized by DownBeat magazine for his “adroit lyricism and gift for complex, imaginative composition.”

He has played with world-class artists, including Dave Holland, Nels Cline, and Richard Bona.

The Thread will weave listeners among a myriad of connections in Black American music, including jazz, and reaching far beyond - across generations and musical styles, following a through-line over the course of each show.

Haskins’s show comes in the middle of a block of Saturday night jazz programming on NCPR. Jazz Night in America kicks it off at 8, followed by The Thread at 9, and NCPR’s Best of Jazz at the Ten Spot with Guy Berard at 10.

Berard recently ended new production of Jazz at the Ten Spot, but encore editions of the program will continue to air in the timeslot it has occupied for more than 25 years. Jazz programming continues overnight, featuring Jazz with David Basse from midnight until 6 o’clock Sunday morning.

Additionally, The Thread will also be available for free, on-demand listening at ncpr.org.
