CANTON – The new Ace Hardware store in Canton is now open.

The store is located at the site of the former Walgreens store at 97 East Main St.

“We always welcome new businesses to our community and we wish for his success,” stated Mayor Michael Dalton. “It’s always nice to see a vacant space now open.”

The store owner is Clark Porter, Gouverneur, who owns Ace Hardware stores in Gouverneur, Potsdam, DeKalb Junction, and Watertown.

A property sale recorded July 17 in the St. Lawrence County Clerk’s office documents a 1.53-acre parcel at 97 East Main St. was sold to Ace of Canton, Inc., Gouverneur for $1,050,000. The seller was Walgreen Eastern Co., Inc., Deerfield, Ill.

Porter was not available for comment. 

According to the Facebook post, store hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 8:30 a.m. on Sunday. The store phone number of (315) 714-1092.

Store offerings include lawn and garden supplies and accessories, paint, hand and power tools, sporting goods, plumbing and electrical supplies, housewares, and hardware needs.

The new store joins two other hardware stores in Canton - Coakley Home & Hardware on the west side of the village at 2535 NY-68, and Rex Hardware, 125 East Main St., on the edge of the University Plaza.
