Most St. Lawrence County food pantries still open, some with drive-thru or curb-side pickup amid COVID-19 crisis

Most food pantries in St. Lawrence County are still open, but with changes in food pick-up for greater health precautions.

Here is information about food pantry locations, hours of operation, and other details.

Most of the county’s Neighborhood Center locations are still open their usual days and times for pick-up.

At this point appointments for food packages are not required. Customers should wait in cars until it is their turn. Pre-packaged boxes will be given at the door to minimize contact, said Community Development Program Director Felicia Dumas.

Neighborhood Center pantries are open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.- 3 p.m., unless otherwise indicated.

• Ogdensburg: Temporary move, so the pantry is closed Monday and Tuesday March 23-24 to relocate center; hoping to be operational again by Wednesday, March 25. Check the signage on City Hall door or www.facebook.com/slccdp for new location and phone number when it is determined.

Canton Church and Community Program

Residents in Canton, Clare, Hermon-DeKalb, Russell, Richville, Rensselaer Falls and Heuvelton can receive food from the Canton Church and Community Program.

The food pantry has switched to giving prepared boxes of food. Now, clients knock at the back door, give their name, and wait for the food box to be prepared and brought back out to them.

In addition to the food box, the Food Bank is offering a choice of pork, chicken and fish.

“We pack a good, generous box of food. We don’t know when they will be back,” said Director Connnie Jenkins.

“We will be open as long as we have enough volunteers. We are in need of younger volunteers,” said Jenkins.

Donations to the Church and Community Program can be mailed to P.O. Box 55, 7 Main St., Canton, 13617.

The food pantry is open on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at 7 Main St. For more information, call 315-386-3534.

Christian Fellowship Center Food Pantry

The Christian Center Fellowship Food Pantry serves Madrid and surrounding areas. It is open the third Thursday of the month from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., but in April they are planning to be open additional dates: April 2, April 16 and April 30. It is now drive-thru style to keep both clients and volunteers safe. Helping Hands

Helping Hands food pantry serves the towns of Potsdam, Pierrepont, Parishville, Colton, South Colton, Madrid, Stockholm, Brasher, Hopkinton, Winthrop, Nicholville, Lawrence, Norwood, Norfolk and Raymondville.

The food pantry is now open as a drive-through service only, on Mondays through Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Honk your horn at the barn and a box of food will be put in your car. For more information or to see if you qualify for assistance, call Pastor Tom Chappell at 315-268-0633.

People wishing to make a donation can mail their check to Helping Hands, PO Box 92, Hannawa Falls or can give donations, nonperishable foods and cleaning supplies at their location at 5868 Rt. 56, Hannawa Falls.

Norfolk / Raymondville Food Pantry

The Norfolk Raymondville Food Pantry is open the third Saturday of each month from 9 a.m.-11 a.m., as long as food holds out. Proof of address is required. Pick-up location is 9 West Main St, Norfolk.

Donations can be made out to Norfolk Raymondville Food Pantry and sent to 9 West Main St, P.O. Box 452 Norfolk.

Community Lunch Program for Kids

Children in the Norwood-Norfolk Central School District may be eligible to receive food from the Community Lunch Program for Kids. Families need to sign up for this program ahead of time.

Food is now being distributed twice a month at St. Raymond’s Church, 8828 St. Hwy 56, Raymondville. Next distribution is Wednesday, April 1.

St. Vincent de Paul Society Food Pantry of Massena

Food pantry and office hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m.-3:00 p.m. according to their phone message. Call (315) 769-1200 to learn when the next food distribution is or to set up an appointment. The location is 128 Main St., Massena.

The Salvation Army of Ogdensburg

Ogdensburg Salvation Army’s food pantry is still offering their monthly food pantry for community members. Pantry hours are Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m.-12 p.m., according to their Facebook page. Customers are asked to call ahead at (315) 393-3351 so that the food package can be ready for pick-up. Delivery can also be made available for those unable to leave home.

The soup kitchen is also still open, but it is now take-out.

It will not be having its weekly food giveaway on Fridays until further notice.

The Salvation Army is located at 401 Franklin St.

The Salvation Army of Massena

The Salvation Army of Massena’s food pantry will now be open for food only on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m.-12 p.m., according to Major Karen L. Bender. However, clients are asked to first call ahead at 315-769-5154 so the office can get food packages put together.

“We will no longer be having our bread distribution on Wednesdays and Fridays. If anyone is in need of assistance they can call the office and leave a message. We will return your call asap,” said Bender.

The office is located at 178 Victory Rd.
