POTSDAM -- More than 600 people turned out for the first Potsdam Back to School Fair Saturday, Aug. 24 at New Hope Community Church.
The day was filled with fun activities for the children as they collected school supplies and received free haircuts courtesy of Mh Studios, Today’s Hair Salon and Spa, and students from the BOCES Cosmetology program.
Families also took advantage of the vision screenings offered by the Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, help determining eligibility for free or reduced lunch, availability of new and gently used clothing, and the Operation Safe Child program.
Lunch and live entertainment rounded out a day filled with sounds of laughter as the children played outside and enjoyed a beautiful summer day.
There were 26 community resource providers and programs represented at the Back to School Fair.
The event was sponsored by the Potsdam Snack Pack Program, the Potsdam Central School District and the Potsdam Chamber of Commerce. Several local area businesses held school supply drives and donated funds to the program.
