MASSENA — Former Massena Central high school friends faced off Sept. 9 in Vermont at the Battle in Barre 11 hosted by Donnybrooke Fight Promotions.

Two local amateur MMA fighters Sam Cameron and Edward “Sensation” Brown Jr., who were friends and former varsity soccer teammates, had no bad blood between them before the fight.

Brown Jr. was scheduled to compete against a different opponent for the championship, but that opponent suffered an injury about a week before the event.

Cameron was the only available fighter willing to take the fight against Brown Jr. on one week’s notice.

“Sam stepped in and lost 10 pounds in 7 days to make weight for the fight,” said Edward Brown Sr., father of Sensation.

“They might be friends outside the cage, but the two were all business once the cage door closed. Both guys came out quick and furious landing strikes. Neither guy held back,” Brown Sr. said.

The match ended with Edward Jr. victorious in the first round.
