CANTON — The village board agreed Wednesday night, Dec. 21, to have Village Attorney Gerald Ducharme seek retainer fees from environmental lawyer William Buchan for services in solar and solar-related matters.

The village is looking to obtain intervenor status and according to Ducharme, Buchan is willing to assist them with the application process.

EDF Renewables is expected to submit its siting application for its Rich Road 240-megawatt solar project in the near future thus the village has 30 days from that application filing date to apply for intervenor rights.

In other matters:

The village board approved the appointment of Peter Beekman to the village’s Zoning Board of Appeals.

Approved adding Lance Rudiger to the Willow Island Committee.

Approved the expenditure for Village Code Enforcement Officer Tim Nolan to attend a conference in lake Placid.

Approved Rachel Hurlbut and Richard Lebel as the newest members of the Canton Fire Department.
